ZERO WASTE ART | Exploring Circular Economy in the Art World
30/09/2025 - From 19h30 to 21h30 - Public
We successfully made a previous event with Jemima Kulumba, Managing Director of the Biennale of Women in Art, who spoke about the underrepresentation of women artists in the art world.
For our second event, we are shifting our focus to environmental sustainability in the art world. These events empower audiences to understand how their purchasing decisions can drive positive change in the art industry.
What to Expect
The event will begin with an interactive introduction by Dr. Audrey-Flore Ngomsik, CEO of Trianon Scientific Communication, designed to introduce participants to the concept of circular economy in art, making this complex topic accessible and engaging for everyone.
Our panel discussion will delve into the practical realities of creating art within circular economy principles, examining how sustainable practices manifest differently across various artistic contexts and cultural backgrounds. We'll explore how for some artists, sustainability represents a conscious environmental choice, while for others, these practices are culturally ingrained or natural ways of living.
Panel Focus Areas
• Defining Circular Economy in Art: Understanding what sustainable art practices mean in today's context
• Cultural Perspectives: Exploring how different cultural backgrounds influence approaches to sustainable art
• Practical Challenges: Discussing the real-world obstacles artists face when adopting zero waste practices
• Consumer Impact: Examining how art buyers can drive industry-wide environmental consciousness
• Showcase of Sustainable Artworks: Featuring actual examples of zero waste art practices
Featured Panellists
• Ann-Christine Racette - Artist and Founder of Sapientera, bringing invaluable expertise in sustainable art practices.
• Sandra Agbessi - Co-founder and Artistic Director of the Brussels Africa Center, offering unique cultural perspectives on sustainability in art.
Both panellists will share insights about their respective approaches to sustainable practices and present examples of their work, creating a rich dialogue about the future of environmentally conscious art.
